Vodafone iPhone launch date announced!

Vodafone have announced that the iPhone will be on sale from 14th January 2010, but it doesn’t look like there is going to be much competition on pricing. The Chief technology officer at Vodafone, Jeni Mundy, explained that the company are not trying to offer the cheapest iPhone but is more concerned with offering the best service. To do this, Mundy stated ‘ We worked closely with Apple and talked to other mobile operators around the world about their experiences with the iPhone to make sure we can meet the demands of users on our network when we launch the product.’

The company have detailed a range of business tariffs starting from £30 going up to £55 on a 24 month contract. These offer unlimited Wi-Fi and calls to landline, and 250 texts per month as standard. The main difference is the number of minutes which ranges from 600 on £30 tariff to 2,000 on the £55 tariff.

The business and consumer contracts come with a 1GB data download limit on BT’s openzone network.

It has also been suggested that a lot of small and large businesses are considering the iPhone for staff, and Apple are keen to push for this as well. Mundy also stated ‘For sales, delivery and logistics staff, the iPhone can help provide applications that enable access to real-time data which can prove invaluable to any company. ‘

Vodafone are also allowing customers to use the iPhone as a modem for £5 for 500MB, £10 for 1.5GB or £15 for 3GB.

Although Vodafone have not priced the iPhone competitively, it will still be a big hit for the network. Keep an eye on the blog for any updates on the iPhone, and check out our current deals on the iPhone 3GS.

Better of waiting a few months then upgrading to the iphone 3gx i think!!

Can’t believe every network is trying to get on the iphone bandwagon. I think o2 have done their thing already.

Hmm…I think I bought mine too early and should have waited for the Vodafone tariffs to be announced. The £30 bundle is better than the one I have signed up to on Orange plus there might not be any restrictions on using the iPlayer on the Vodafone network whereas there are on Orange. Oh well!

  5. Finally. This iphone/Vodafone powerup sees Jesus Phone opened up to yet another network!

Unfortunate that there’s no massive swing in the price, but for me Vodafone has a bunch of other bonuses that work its way:

-First Vodafone have a larger data allowance on their ‘Unlimited’ internet package,

-I gather customer service is much better than O2

-and their 3G coverage is much more comprehensive.
