The W580i is a slim, slide format phone, with a 2.0 megapixel camera. The Sony Ericsson W580i is just 14mm thick, but includes a large QVGA TFT colour screen, supporting 262k colours, and includes the Sony Ericsson Sports Applications, allowing you to plan your training schedule on the phone. The phone has capacity to store up to 470 full length audio tracks, and includes the latest Walkman software with support for album art. The Track ID feature is also supported on the Sony Ericsson W580. This allows you to find the name and artist information of an unknown clip of music by recording it onto your phone and uploading it to the Sony Ericsson music service. Information of the clip is then sent to your phone. Steve Walker, Head of Product Marketing at Sony Ericsson explained:

Hiya Dermot,
We’re keeping our eyes open for an announced release date, but nothing as yet. We expect it to be available before the end of June, to be honest, and as soon as we have full details it will be up on our Mobiles site. Once it’s live you can simply sign up for a one-off email that will tell you when it’s in stock, as well as putting you at the head of the queue!
If you’re desperate for an upgrade right now, then personally I love the SonyEricsson W880i walkman phone…

Hey, when will this phone be out as I’m due my upgrade in a week and have had my eye on this phone for a few weeks now but all the phone shops know is that it’s been ‘coming soon’ for the past two months. And also, does it have flash and infrared? I’ve heard it doesn’t.

SonyEricsson’s own site lists it as a 2 megapixel camera, maybe you’re thinking of the SonyEricsson K850i which is the new Cybershot? That’s a 5 megapixel camera and looks like it’ll be pretty sweet

by the way NABIL…i hav just heard from O2 and they are selling the W580i White for £149.99 but it only comes with a 512MB memory card and not a 1GB:(…it is also being sold on the Sony Ericsson site for £219.99 but with a 1GB memory card…so u better be quick cos i’v already got one frm O2 and i just bought another 1GB memory card for £6 on the Amazon website!!!
