Since the Samsung Pixon was first announced back in late September, the latest member of the 8.0 Megapixel gang has fallen under the radar with little more information coming to light. Until now that is! In the run up to the Pixon’s early November launch, Samsung have begun a marketing campaign based around the 8 Megapixel phones most celebrated feature. Which, if that wasn’t a big enough clue, is its camera! The “photographic adventures of Nick Turpin” focuses on the aforementioned photographer Nick Turpin travelling the globe with his trusty 8.0 Megapixel Pixon at his side. Starting in sunny home town; East Dulwich, UK, Nick uploaded a photo taken with his Samsung camera phone. Visitors to the site were then given the ability to click on any part of the picture with the object or thing with the most clicks becoming the subject matter for his next composition in this photographic adventure.
And so after most people clicked on a man in the first photo (and in a twist that everyone should have foreseen, specifically the mans bottom), Nick set off to France and to a town that literally translates into English as ‘my ass’. And so began the journey which has so far seen Nick snap nine different photos across the globe with many more to come from the looks of things. What does this tell us about the Samsung Pixon you ask? Well first things first, the picture quality looks exceptional with
high levels of details, colour and excellent clarity. The second thing we can assume Samsung are trying to tell us is that the Pixon is a GPS enabled device with support for Geotagging. Each photo taken by nick has been Geotagged to the location he took it (which is accurate judging on the location of the Parthenon). A great feature which isn’t exactly unique to the Pixon but should hopefully encourage people to actually use it, which is a lot simpler than it sounds!
The concept for this marketing campaign is unique, fun and certainly going to get people excited about the phone as well as camera phones and photography in general. And with the Samsung Pixon expected early November, you won’t have to wait much longer to get your fix. Click here to keep updated.
Now if you don’t mind, I’m off to take some artistic black and white photos in the garden.
