Palm Pre in stock now at Mobiles.co.uk!

Following a well received launch on O2 here in the UK, the phone that has the iPhone shaking in its boots is now in stock at Mobiles.co.uk. That’s right, the Palm Pre is bringing it’s WebOS goodness to the UK’s first online mobile retailer. For those who may have missed it (get out much?), let’s take a trip down memory lane and remind ourselves what’s so special about the Palm Pre.

The Palm Pre boasts a 3.1 inch touchscreen that matches the iPhone for responsiveness featuring multi-touch technology (pinch zooming et al) and a nice ripple effect that confirms on screen actions. Combined with the excellent touchscreen, the Pre features what Palm call a gesture area; a small panel beneath the screen that allows you to perform various functions such as closing apps and moving forward or back in web pages by swiping a finger across in various directions. Not content with offering two methods of operating the Pre, Palm have kindly equipped the phone with a slide out QWERTY keyboard making it a match made in heaven for email enthusiasts and instant messaging addicts.

The real feature that sets the Palm Pre apart from all of its rivals isn’t really a feature at all; it’s the operating system. WebOS runs multiple applications effortlessly and manages them like an on screen deck of cards (flick left to right to change apps and flick off screen to close them). WebOS also compiles all your messages from various sources into one conversation; send someone a text, then an email and later instant message them and the Pre will display it as one uninterrupted conversation. The Pre also features Synergy which grabs information from your Gmail account, Facebook and your sim contacts to offer multiple ways to contact friends. What WebOS also brings to the table is Apps. From games to news feeds and business applications to mileage calculators and business directories, the list of apps available for the Pre is always growing.

In terms of features, the Pre sports a 3.0 Megapixel camera with a built in LED flash. It won’t exactly compete with the Satio but it does the job well enough. The built in MP3 music player is nicely complimented by 8GB of internal memory, connectivity is bolstered by HSDPA and Wi-Fi and the built in GPS receiver compliments the pre-installed Google Maps software.
