Nokia are sticking by SymbianDecember 4, 2009 at 2:04 pm by Hannah | In Mobile Content/Services, Mobile News, Mobile Phones
However, using Symbian makes good business sense for Nokia, allowing the company to develop cheap smartphones. Currently the biggest drawback with the Symbian OS is the user interface which hasn’t kept up with touch-based user interfaces on devices such as the iPhone and the Google Android OS. A new version of Symbian will be available in the middle of 2010 which will be the first step to an improved user interface, and by the end of 2010 the user experience on Symbian phones will not be an issue at all. These updated versions of Symbian will reduce clutter, decrease the number of clicks the user has to follow to access a specific feature such as music or email and offers an overall much faster user interface. The trend of smartphones doesn’t just appear in developed markets, some devices including the Nokia 5230 will be expanding to reach new markets. Nokia stated ‘The cost of smartphones will continue to drop, without elaborating on what future devices will cost.’ The Maemo OS will only be used on its most expensive devices including the up-coming, longed for N900. The first products based on the updated version of the OS, Maemo 6, will not be seen until the second half of 2010. This refreshed version will bring customers an improved user interface and better support for Keep checking back on the blog to keep updated with the latest news about Nokia, and check out the site to see some of our great deals on Symbian OS handsets.
