If you’re the proud owner of an HTC Desire (well done you), chances are you’re waiting for or have recently upgraded to the latest version of the Android operating system; Android 2.2 Froyo. Whilst the general enhancements to speed and user interface are welcome updates, the Desire also gets several new features thanks to Froyo. Read on for our top 5…
5. Google Voice Actions – The HTC Desire now supports Google Voice Actions meaning you can tell your phone to navigate to a certain place and watch in amazement as the Desire takes you there. Couple this with the Desire’s free turn-by-turn SatNav and the this really does start to make that dedicated SatNav start to look a little long in the tooth.
4. App Sharing - First seen on the HTC Wildfire, the Desire’s little brother, App Sharing does what it says on the tin, letting you recommend your favourite apps via Twitter, text or Email. With over 80,000 apps now in the Android Market, the addition of App Sharing is a vital one.
3. 720p HD Video - The Desire is now on a level playing field with its Android rival, the Samsung Galaxy S, not to mention Apple’s iPhone 4, with the addition of 720p HD video capture in MPEG4 video file format.
2. Wi-Fi Hotspot - Much like the HTC HD2, the Desire now has the ability to act as a wireless modem, letting you connect multiple devices to your Desire, such as a laptop or iPod Touch, and use the phones 3G connection. Set up is simply a case of activating it from the dedicated app and pairing your device of choice. Simple.
1. Flash in browser - Much as Steve Jobs would have you believe the contrary, Flash on the HTC Desire works brilliantly. Watch video content in your web browser from sites such as Channel 4′s 4oD TV catchup service and view web pages with Flash content just as you’d see them on your PC at home. Flash catapults the Desire to the top of the pile for web browsing and opens up a world of possibilities.
