In the world of mobile phones, size matters. If this is the case for you then you won’t like the Nokia E90. If you can compromise you will get a top class mobile phone. The E90 offers it all.

This is my first time really using a communicator device from Nokia on a day to day basis and I was left very impressed. The usability is straight forward, the product is well built and feels very solid, and the battery performs very well. In 10 days of usage I’ve had to charge the phone twice. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend the E90, it really is out on its own in terms of features and functionality.

The Nokia E90 is an amazing product. With so many features you would expect some level of complication in use, so it is a testimony to the user interface of S60 that everything is laid out in a logical manner and just simply works.

Living With It

From the front of the handset, the Nokia E90 works like any standard mobile phone. There is full access to the phone menu system and text/data entry is via the traditional phone keypad. The screen is very bright, QVGA in size and supports 16m colours. The active standby screen on the E90 offers 6 shortcuts to the most popular features on the handset, plus detail on upcoming appointments, missed calls, emails received, unread text messages and available WiFi.

Open the E90 up and you see the real benefits of this handset. Inside there is a QWERTY keypad and a bright 16m colour 800×352 screen. Now the point in carrying a larger than average mobile phone becomes clear. At times it is as if you have a mini laptop in the palm of your hand. You can write documents, type out quick notes, organise your calendar, send text messages and emails and browse the web quickly and easily. The S60 web browser is probably the best available on a mobile phone, and it comes into its own on the E90. Websites are easy to see and very easy to navigate.

Nokia E90The Nokia E90 is not just focused on business, there is also a built in stereo FM radio, MP3 player and video player. With the E90 watching a movie on a mobile phone actually makes sense. Put the player onto full screen and sit back and watch in glorious clarity a movie or TV show of your choice. The E90 supports Micro SD memory cards, which currently go up to a capacity of 4GB, enough to store a couple of films, a few TV shows, a few albums of music and still have room for pictures taken with the excellent 3.2 megapixel camera.

And that is not all. Underneath the casing the E90 sports some serious features. We have stereo Bluetooth support, so you can listen to music without needing to be connected with wires. There is support for WLAN for high speed internet connections. If you are not in a WiFi area, the E90 is a 3G phone equipped with HSDPA for super fast mobile broadband speeds (3.6 MBPS) . If you are outside 3G coverage the E90 supports GPRS and EGPRS for high speed connections. And still there is more.

One of the less mentioned features of the E90 is the built in GPS receiver. Along with Nokia maps this allows you to use the E90 as a full blown SatNav product. The Nokia Maps application works on the outside screen with the phone closed, but really comes into its own when used on the internal screen. Bright, clear, easy to see and easy to use.

    Hello,

Good going. You have taken a good step to provide explanations for mobile phones through postings. I have read your article giving full and usable explanations about mobile phones. But one thing thing I would like to say that this information is incomplete.

    Hi there,

Very informative i’d say. Clarifies most of questions that needs to be asked. Ideal sight when trying to study a phone you have no idea about.

    Thanks.
