Exclusive Smartphone Group Test. Day Three: The HTC Touch

HTC TouchHere is a review of the HTC Touch, as reviewed by Hannah.

One of the most ergonomic phones I have seen for a while, the Ted Baker branded Touch is lightweight and smooth with a rubberised finish to add some style and sophistication. Having never used a touch screen and being somewhat a novice to smart phones my initial reaction to the phone was a little daunting, but once I’d got the sim and battery in, and read the first few pages of the handbook, I was away.

Overall, the phone looks and feels great, and has everything I need to conduct both my personal and business life from my pocket. It took a little getting used to, but now I don’t want to give it back.

Living With It

After the initial set up and configuration, which was really simple, I wanted to send my first text message. The navigation to text messages is easy, an icon on the home screen. 3 clicks and I was well on my way. Like with most new gadgets, they take some getting used to, but once I had fully explored the HTC touch, and got used to my first smart phone, I decided that I actually couldn’t live without it. It not only wakes me up in the morning, tells me what I have to do each day, and lets me work from home, but it also lets me stay in touch with friends and family via email, the internet and texts, but it also has games on it!

    Hi Hannah,
Good review. Lots of great things about this phone, but I think its important to talk about bugs, or problems about it too. If Touch is your first smart phone then, you may well be impressed with it. Touch indeed is an impressive phone.
However, from all the little research I have done or review I have read; it seems missing out on one major thing… QWERTY keyboard!! I know how awful it is to type from the touch-screen.
If you can please share your experience and thoughts about this.
    Regards,
    Nisarg

    Hi Nisarg,

Thanks for the comments, I actually found the Touch keypad really easy to use. Once i got used to it, it was fine. However HTC have taken this on board and are releasing the HTC Touch Dual later this year which is a slider, and has a physical keypad. So thats something to keep an eye out for.

I got one the other week on an Orange plan (for free), and have to say the phone works brilliantly. Beyond expectations, however two things let it down:
the screen contrast outdoors and the weather function doesn’t cover the whole of the UK -just London- need to update this

    Great phone and functionaliality. cheers

    Dear Hannah,
Thanks for the great review. I know that Nisarg already asked a very similar question about the touch keypad, but I have seen some very negative reviews saying that it is too fiddly and difficult to use. I am looking to buy the gorgeous ted baker version of this phone for christmas, and it would be great if you could tell me more about the touch screen keypad, as I normally use Word on my phone to type / edit documents. Thanks a lot,
    Lexie

    Hi Lexie,

The keypad is really easy. Granted it does take some getting used to, going from a usual phone keypad. But it is really simple. In fact i now use the side of my fingernail to type rather than the stylus.i have no complaints at all with it. There are many different functions, so you can have it on handwriting recognition too. The only way it may be too fiddly is the size of the letters, but the stylus is made for this, and there is an in-built t9 type software that gives you around 5 different words to chose from, from the first few letters you type in.

    I hope this helps?

    Hannah
