Firefox web browser comes to Nokia N900!

After teasing us with a demo video back in November, Mozilla have finally released the mobile version of their excellent Firefox web browser. Available for the Maemo operating system, Firefox can be downloaded for the recently released Nokia N900 as well as the N810, Nokia’s earlier attempt at a Maemo powered device (though strictly speaking an internet tablet rather than a mobile phone).

With the N900 already available with a pre-installed Mozilla web browser, is it worth the upgrade to the full blown Firefox version? Well, with the browser now available to download directly from Mozilla we’ll let you be the judge but here’s a quick look at what you can expect from the Firefox Mobile web browser for Maemo.

The key feature for Firefox is tabbed browsing as you’ll now be able to open multiple tabs within the web browser on your N900, each of which can display a separate web page. Mobile Firefox also includes the Awesome address bar and Weave sync. For the uninitiated, the Awesome bar is a smart address bar that will start offering suggestions as you type an address based on your browsing history whilst Weave sync will allow you to sync your browsing history, tabs, bookmarks etc. from your desktop PC to your N900. Not bad eh?!

The Firefox browser also brings along with it a whole host of nice little extras such as password managers, a download manager which lets you browse, pause and cancel ongoing downloads, pop-up blocker, automatic updates, a cool add on tool which lets you add extras such as YouTube and location aware browsing giving you information and maps relevant to your location.

From our brief play, Firefox Mobile just goes to show the true capabilities of the Nokia N900. But don’t take our word for it. If you’re the lucky owner of a Nokia N900, simply visit Firefox.com/m on your phone and download it for yourself!
