Sarin said “It is clearly a good, software driven device, but we’re concerned about wideband area coverage so that 3G or HSDPA connectivity with the iPhone is something we look forward to”. This could be the reason that Vodafone have cooled interest in the iPhone recently, with O2 now reported to be the favourite to take the exclusive iPhone contract in the UK. The iPhone currently offers connectivity via WiFi and EDGE. Bookmark at:StumbleUpon | Digg | Del.icio.us | Dzone | Newsvine | Spurl | Simpy | Furl | Reddit | Yahoo! MyWeb |

This is the main problem with the iPhone in Europe. Compared to the US, we are used to much faster speeds and a much freer mobile phone market. The inability of the iPhone to use 3G, and the fact the phone is locked so tightly to the network could prove a problem for what we used to dealing with, and it certainly allows other manufacturers like Sony Ericsson to keep in the running.

Yes the 3G concern is the only bottleneck for the iPhone expansion. Here in India too Three of the Companies namely Hutch, Airtel and Reliance are in a bid for iPhone EDGE conectivity.
