Qualcomm confirm Snapdragon Nokia in the pipeline!

It looks as though Nokia and chipset manufacturer Qualcomm have finally buried the hatchet with the announcement that the two companies are working together on a Snapdragon powered Nokia smartphone due to be released later in the year. The two companies had been at odds in the past few years relating to disputes over patents coming to a head in 2008 resulting in Nokia paying an undisclosed fee as settlement. But with their problems now behind them, the new BFF’s are now back in bed together, beavering away on a Snapdragon smartphone.

For those unfamiliar with Qualcomm, the company is behind the powerful Snapdragon processor which is currently powering the likes of the HTC HD2, Google Nexus One and upcoming HTC Desire, all of which boast an impressive 1GHz clock speed. And, in an interview in the run up to this years Mobile World Congress expo, Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs confirmed that the processor would be powering an as yet unannounced Nokia smartphone before the year is out. Could it be the rumoured QWERTY-less N900Nokia? A new MeeGo device perhaps? Or possibly even the fabled 12 Megapixel Nokia smartphone we know as the N87? Your guess is as good as ours. Keep an eye on the blog and we’ll let you know as soon as we do.
