Mobile phones really do seem to have everything a user could ask for, and thats no different for Nokia. Nokia Maps, a very useful A-Z SatNav is available to use on selected Nokia handsets including the N97 and 5800 XpressMusic. Users can take advantage of standard features such as finding out their current location, searching for addresses or locations, planning their route and much more. Premium services are also available (at a price), including pedestrian and voice-guided car navigation which has traffic updates and 3D landmarks. Even with all of these exciting features it is possible that this app is about to get even more superior. Nokia have
teamed up with Dopplr, a free web service for smart travellers who can share their personal and business travel plans privately with their family and friends. You can build up a record of all the places you have travelled or plan to travel, find out when people you know are in the same area and make a list of the memorable places you have visited which you can then share with your friends. The service can also recommend places to eat, see and travel based on your past experiences and comments made by your friends. You can receive travel tips too so if you travel a lot, this really is a good app to make the most of as it makes travelling that much more easier.
It has been confirmed this week that Nokia have bought Dopplr, and as the Finns are rebranding themselves as a ‘mobile services provider’, features like these are what Nokia would love to see integrated into Nokia Maps.
No official plans have been made for the launch of this new service with Nokia Maps, apart from a brief explanation from Dopplr stating how they will “bring unique know-how in creating internet-based communities and showing their journeys, experiences and tastes collectively on the web”. Dopplr already integrates with both Facebook and Twitter, so could Nokia Maps be next?
