With stock due on Friday, those of you who have already pre-ordered the HTC Desire are nearing the end of what has no doubt felt like an age waiting for what is arguably the most eagerly anticipated handset release of 2010, ahead of even the yet-to-be announced iPhone 4G from Apple. But what is it that has put the Desire on so many people’s wish list?
Well, for the uninitiated, the Desire is the HTC branded version of the Google Nexus One (which HTC actually produces anyway) but with a few minor improvments thrown in for good measure, namely an optical trackpad in place of the trackball offering superior accuracy and comfort for scrolling and navigating. The biggest difference between the two, comes in software form however, with the Desire running HTC’s own Sense UI over the top of Andriod 2.1; the same Operating System as the Nexus One.
Aside from the changes listed above, there isn’t much else different; both the Desire and the Nexus One sport the same 3.7 Inch WVGA AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 5.0 megapixel camera with an LED flash and the latest version of Android; Android 2.1. The Desire is the first handset released this year that is truly a contender for best smartphone currently on the market; raising the bar for all other manufacturers, even Apple.
So, fancy getting your hands on the Desire? We don’t blame you. It can be yours absolutely Free on a £25 a month contract which will get you 600 minutes and Unlimited texts, and you’ll even get 5 months Half Price Line Rental by redemption, plus you’ll be one of the first to get your hands on this awesome phone. Click here for more details. Hurry, with limited stock arriving on Friday, you’ll need to act fast to reserve yours now!

[...] the rest here: HTC Desire in stock Friday; the wait is nearly over…. March 23rd, 2010 | Tags: age-waiting, are-nearing, arguably-the, arguably-the-most, even-the-yet, [...]
I just got an email from you saying that the T-Mobile version has been delayed by a couple of weeks.
Any reason for this?
@Doug – The Desire is currently going through a testing process to ensure the phone is compatible with each network. This is known as the approvals process and is separate from the networks themselves as the Desire we stock is network unlocked/ unbranded so we have to ensure the software is compatible with each network.
We had been advised that there would be a delay in T-Mobile granting us approval to sell the unlocked Desire (hence why you received an email) but we have since received an update stating this shouldn’t be the case. Please keep an eye on the comments section and i’ll continue to update with more info as and when i get it but at the moment we’re still planning to ship T-Mobile orders on Friday.
Awesome news!!
You just made my day. Thanks!
Hi,
I’m looking for this on Orange. You have it listed but there’s no mention of unlimited internet access. Can you confirm that it is included? Also will it be sent out friday if ordered on Orange?
Thanks,
G
Will this be the case for the Desire on Vodafone…will you be shipping these on Friday also? and Im guessing with dispatch on Friday will mean we wont recieve the phone until Monday? doh
Thanks
@Gareth – The 500MB data allowance (Orange’s ‘unlimited’ offering) is only available on selected tariffs such as Dolphin 40 (24 months). Subject to availability, Orange orders will be despatched on Friday for Saturday or Monday delivery
@Ashley – Yes, Vodafone orders will be despatched on Friday too; orders should be delivered on Saturday (fingers crossed) or Monday.
@Dan – Thanks Dan, you too have made my day and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a Saturday delivery
Just out of curiosity are you expecting enough stock to cover all the pre-orders you currently have? As I really really don’t want to be the one who gets a ‘sorry this item is out of stock’ email tomorrow!! lol as like most people I have been waiting for this phone to come out for a while now and did pre-order at the beginning of the month.
@Ashley – No problem. We should hopefully have enough stock to cover all existing pre-orders so hopefully come Saturday you’ll be enjoying your new Desire!
@Dan – Am very excited now
Thank you Dan you have been really helpful!
My Desire order is still described as ‘pending’ (as it has been for a couple of days). I take it this will change when the phone is sent out…
@Doug – Don’t worry, this is normal. Your order will remain as pending up until it is despatched (which will be at some point tomorrow afternoon).
@Dan – Thanks, I didn’t see anything on the website about that (I may’ve missed it though)
@Dan – Does this only apply to T-Mobile shops? http://www.t3.com/news/htc-desire-launches-march-29th-on-t-mobile?=44399
Oh no – I got email today form Mobiles.co.uk stated your out of stock on my Vodaphone pre-Order
I guess that means it wont be sent out tomorrow
OK PANIC – My Order is no longer on your site?
Have email Thanking Registration when ordered on on 15-Mar-2010 and Order Confirmation email for 15-Mar-2010 listing my HTC Desire Order.
Added to this and my previous comment above I recieved an Out of Stock email today with…
…Unfortunately, the item you ordered is temporarily out of stock but a large delivery is expected very soon. We have placed your order for this on hold and will notify you as soon as we have more information.
Turnover of stock is often extremely quick and this can mean on rare occasions our website is not up to date. If you have not received an update on the stock situation within 24hrs please contact our Order Processing team
Rest assured that we will not charge your card for out of stock items until they are back in stock and ready for despatch….
NO IM VERY WORRIED 1 DAY B4 LAUNCH
Hi Dan I’ve got a pre-order of the Desire and would love to hear later that you’ve both got stock and dispathed it to arrive tomorrow!
What are the chances of them arriving today?
Thanks
Paul
@Dan – Right I most unhappy – as per my email above I asked if you would be getting enough stock to cover the pre-orders and guess what I have received today??? An email stating the item is out of stock!!!!! Please shed some light on this…..
@Dan – OK, so I called your customer services and have been told that the text/email I received was in error as the status was change to awaiting stock and everyone received this text/email.
I was also told that you are still expecting the phones in this afternoon and I Should receive an email/text to let me know and also to let me know that it has been dispatched.
Are you able to confirm is this information is correct?
Sorry to rant, was just very shocked to receive this text/email after posting the message above about this exact message.
Hey Dan can you confirm you will be sending the HTC desire out? because i have ordered from tmobile directly and they have just told me couple minutes ago that because of a last minute quality check fail all HTC desires wont be shipping today?
thanks
@All – Apologies for slow response.
We are expecting stock to arrive this afternoon and will begin despatching orders as soon as possible on a strictly first come first serve basis.
Apologies for the confusion, it would appear some of you received an out of stock email yesterday afternoon/ this morning: This was sent in error and we are still expecting stock to arrive imminently.
@Dan
Thanks Dan! Really appreciate the update!
I’m crossing my fingers and toes hoping I am one of the lucky ones that pre-ordered early enough!
@Dan – Yes Thanks Dan for the update – I too appreciate it
@Paul – I’m hoping I’m one of the luck ones too have been waiting for this phone to come out for ages!! FINGERS CROSSED
Hi Dan,
I got the “out of stock” email just now within the last few minutes. I take it my pre-order wasnt one of the lucky ones?
@Dan – Excellent news & many thanks for your service on this blog. Its this kind of service that continues to make Mobiles.co.uk my 1st choice for mobiles in the future. Excellent service is what makes me stick with a company and recommend them to others!! Well done!!
@Ashely – thanks for the post and heads up. shame we didnt receive another telling us the error, but thanks to Dan were all releived.
@Wayne, Paul & Ashley – No problem, i’ll try and update as soon stock arrives!
@Amit – Apologies, as per the above comments, these emails were sent in error, stock is arriving this afternoon so hopefully your order should be despatched today.
@Dan, thank you for the update, its very helpful! Certainly a lot more than T-Mobile have been over the last week!
I’ve just been into a few mobile shops in Nottingham and they’ve all said the same thing – that the Desire has some software problems and it likely to be released next week.
Any chance of confirming/ denying this, thanks
I see the main site page (http://www.mobiles.co.uk/htc-desire.html) is stating STOCK now
Dan has the nice HTC lorry delivered?
Now showing as in stock….I presume that means that the delivery arrived and people that you have enough for the pre-orders?
Thanks for the updates
It now says “in stock”. I guess this means we’re on for a Saturday delivery?! Wahoo!
I see on the website it now says ‘In Stock’ so I guess it’s just a matter of time to see if any of us are luck enough to get one before the stock goes!
Any updates your end Dan? Do you know if you have enough in stock to cover ALL pre-orders or are you short?
anyone been lucky enough to receive an email yet? Keep us posted….if you get one let us know and likewise I will do the same!
I just got the “not in the stock” email! Is this one that was sent in error or a real one? I really hope it’s in error and I get it tomorrow. It’s my son’s birthday
Oh well, its 19:37pm and no email sent
Hopefully monday then.
@Dan
Hi Dan, thanks for all the updates today. I cannot log into my account to track my order now! Not sure what’s going on! I don’t want to have to stay in all day tomorrow unless I am sure I need to?
OK so it’s now 8:30pm and still nothing…!?!? Has the phone been dispatched or not?

Just saw an in stock notification on here, does it mean i get to touch my beloved today, i cant wait!!!!!!!!
So has anyone heard anymore news??
@Dan – can you supply any?!
I today received an email stating my order has been sent to the warehouse…..does that mean it has been dispatched or not!! mmmm
@All – Apologies for the lack of updates.
I can confirm we have recieved our delivery and do have stock of the HTC Desire.
Due to a later than expected arrival (late PM Friday) and the sheer number of pre-orders received, we were unable to process a large quantity of orders.
Rest assured we are doing our best to get these orders despatched and you should receive your order either on Monday or Tuesday at the very latest.
Apologies for the inconvenience, we had expected an AM delivery which would have given us more than enough time tp process all waiting orders but this was delayed.
Thanks for your patience
@Dan – Thank you for the update, I think most people probably thought that was the case. We shall await delivery on Mon/Tue!!

Thanks
@Dan
Handtec and Clove have confirmed the above, Whats the news at Mobiles.co.uk? Are you still expecting any handsets in? Or can you confirm the delay?
Hi there Dan pre ordered my desire last sunday on vodaphone, have only recieved an email saying “We can confirm that your order has been accepted by your chosen network and has now been passed to our Quality Team for further checks.” on 25th but not heard anything since, I am porting my number from o2 so I dunno if that might be something to do with it? also checked the tracker on the website and it just says pending. I’ve had phones from you in the past (under my maiden name) so am not to worried, any ideas?
No news is very much bad news;(
Hi,
Is there any news on the remaining pre-orders as I am yet to have a dispatch notice (or any other communication!)
How is everyone else getting on? Is it just me who has not heard anying?
@All – Contrary to numerous reports online, our HTC Desire stock has not been impacted by any rumoured software problems.
Our first wave of stock has been assigned to existing pre-orders and you should receive your orders over the next 24 hours.
We are currently out of stock of the Desire but are expecting a second delivery this afternoon so any orders currently outstanding should hopefully be fulfilled by this stock. Apologies for the delay however this should not delay orders by more than 24 hours. Rest assured we are doing our very best to keep up with the phenomenal demand for this phone.
@Chris W/ Wayne – your orders have been or are in the process of being despatched – you should receive your order today or tomorrow
@Dan – Thanks for the update, your efforts are appreciated
Hi All
Despite numerous chasers and phone calls I have still recieved no news since my order confirmation last Thursday. The Order tracker shows nothing and customer services keep telling me it will be processed soon.
Getting a bit concerned now as I could have just waited for Orange to get them and gone direct to get a better deal as I am out of contract.
Have never had problems with Carphone Warehouse or their partners in the past and still have my old phone with them.
Any news would be great.
Regards
Chris
@All – Unfortunately the emails you have received are accurate. Unfortunately the stock we were expecting today has now been pushed back to Thursday. This combined with the Easter Bank holiday weekend does mean that the earliest outstanding Desire orders will be received be Tuesday.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused, unfortunately due to overwhelming popularity and a lower than expected first delivery, we have struggled to keep up with the huge demand. We will endeavor to process your orders as soon as stock arrives and i will continue to keep you updated via the comments on this post.
For those willing to wait for stock, please provide me with your order number and i will arrange for a free in car charger to be sent out with your phone.
Thanks for the update Dan. How about upping the standard 500Mb Download limit to say 1 or 2 Gb instead
)
Lets face it most people already have a micro USB car charger or 2 kicking around.
Regards
Chris
@Chris – Unfortunately data limits are governed by the network, not ourselves, so we aren’t able to alter what the networks offer.
@Dan – Does this effect those of us that have recieved the your order has been sent to our warehouse for dispatch email but nothing more or am I one of the lucky onces? Thanks in advance,
@Dan – Don’t worry about it Dan, I have just heard that mine has arrived at home…shame I am at work. Thanks for the updates and I hope everyone else gets there orders soon.
@Dan Any chance you could check where my order is in the pre-order queue? I placed it on the 14th March and theres been no update on the Order Info page of your website. I noticed you mentioned to some people that ordered on the 15th March that their orders were in the process of being dispatched? Any update would be great
@Chris W – No this shouldn’t delay your order as you were allocated stock from our first delivery. Your Desire should arrive today!
@ Gavin – Your order has been processed and is currently awaiting stock which should hopefully be arriving tomorrow for delivery early next.
I’ll try and keep you all updated as best i can tomorrow.
@Dan Thanks very much, if you get stock tomorrow is there any chance of a Saturday delivery, pretty please?
@All – I am pleased to let you all know that we have received our second delivery of HTC Desire stock 24 hours early and are currently in the process of working through back orders.
Please bear with us as we try to process existing orders as quickly as possible. You should receive despatch notification via email in due course.
Thanks, Dan
Hi Dan,
Placed my order at 2.30 this afternoon. Have cancelled with another provider (starts with an “O”) after 15 years to go with vodafone on the desire.
Is there a massive backlog of existing orders at the moment?
Hi Dan
Any news on when the order tracking will be fixed? I ordered my Desire a long time ago and am still unable to see anything on the tracker
Cheers
Chris
@Dan – Sorry to pester, but any idea when I’m likely to receive mine? I think I placed the order around 19th / 20th March..
Cheers
Jem
@ Dan – Great news about your stock arriving a day early. Sadly no email from you guys saying you’ve processed my order though, so won’t be gettign it tomorrow i guess.
However, as I’m down for Royal Mail delivery, so if you finally despatch to me tomorrow, the phone (and free in car charger you’ve offered to those waiting) should be with me on Saturday (not Tuesday) as RM deliver over weekend. That must be right?
Hi Dan, I ordered the HTC Desire on monday, this week. Just wondering when order 1132096 might be available? I appreciate your stock will go to pre-orders first, so will I be waiting a week or so you think? thanks in advance
@All – For those who received the despatch notification yesterday, you should hopefully receive your Desire’s today.
Orders despatched today may arrive on Saturday (RM do not guarantee Saturday delivery) but should arrive on Tuesday at the very latest.
Now the bad news. Unfortunately (and quite typically) the in car chargers offered as a good will gesture are currently out of stock. We made the decision (which i’m sure you’ll all agree with) to send the phone’s first and the chargers when stock becomes available to save delaying the whole order.
Thanks for your patience and sticking with us and i hope you all enjoy your new phones.
