cs-kenny-scott.jpgBarely one week after the new legislation on using mobile phones whilst driving came into force, and a senior police officer has already been caught breaking the law.

Chief Superintendent Kenny Scott, from Strathclyde police, was stopped by officers from his own force as he was driving down the M74. He will now have to pay a £60 fine and will have 3 points put on his license. It was reported in the Scottish Sun that Mr Scott was off duty, and driving a private car when he was stopped.

A spokesman from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said:

“drivers are four times more likely to crash while using a mobile.” Adding “It is disappointing that somebody in his position has broken this law. He would have been well aware of how dangerous it is to use a mobile phone whilst driving. As well as putting his own life at risk he also jeopardised the lives of other road users.”
