Mobile phone users sent a record 3.3billion text messages during May. Events helping to boost numbers of messages sent included The FA Cup, Champions League final and Big Brother. An average of 106 million person to person text messages were sent, per day. This figure is up 26% on May 2005 and beats the previous record of 3.2billion messages sent in March 2006. It is expected figures for June could be even higher, due to the World Cup. More than 120 million messages were sent on FA Cup final day, with more than 124 million being sent on the Champions League final.

It is predicted 36.5 billion text will be sent by UK users this year, up from 32 billion in 2005
