Want to remote start your car? There’s an app for that!

Now, I’m not a huge fan of the iPhone, but this might just be enough to sway even me. This could quite possibly be the coolest application yet to be developed for the Apple monster. A Viper alarm application, which will allow you to remotely lock, unlock, open the “trunk” (yes, you guessed it, we have our American cousins on the other side of the pond to thank for this) and even start the car remotely using your iPhone.

Picture this, waking up in the morning, ice outside, you reach for your iPhone and start the engine. By the time your ready to leave for work, you can jump straight into a warm car and just drive. No more scraping windscreens or shivering behind the wheel as you wait for the engine to run warm. Sounds like heaven right?

We know that this technology exists already, in the form of a key fob though, which requires a line of sight between you and your pride and joy. This application however, uses cellular radio waves, so you can literally start your car from the comfort of your bed. The cost of this technology? The application is free, but don’t start celebrating yet, the SmartStart Hardware Module that needs to first be fitted to the car costs “at least $300″ or about £190 give or take.

I don’t know about you, but if i had an iPhone this would certainly be high on my wishlist even with that price tag! But don’t get too excited just yet, this is an American app with no word on a European release, but i wouldn’t write the idea off completely.
