Attention all you frequent fliers! Sick of sitting through long haul flights without being able to do anything productive? Well, help is at hand with the new Flight Mode application which is available to download for BlackBerry smartphones from BlackBerry App World. Unlike the flight modes pre-installed on nearly all phones, the app promises to keep you working through out the duration of those pesky phone free flights (which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your attitudes towards work).

Firing up the app downloads incomplete emails from your mail server and then closes down all wireless connections and switches off the device ready for take off. Once the plane has successfully taken off, switch your BlackBerry back on and the wireless connections are still disabled but you can start working on your replies. Clicking send will store the messages ready for when you land. Once safely landed (and after thanking your relevant deity(s)), simply closing the app will restore all wireless connections and send all your messages that are queued up in the outbox.

The App itself is designed by Cortado, the company that have brought us such apps in the past as ‘Save the Weekend’, basically a version of flight mode for weekends where out of office emails are saved for the next working day, and SMS2Desk which lets you receive SMS text messages to any email account. Compatible with all BlackBerry’s running BlackBerry OS 4.3 or higher, all you Curve 8520, 8900, Bold 9700 and Storm2 users can get in on the action.
