Nokia announce two new handsets: 6700 Slide and 7230!November 30, 2009 at 3:16 pm by Mark | In Coming Soon Handsets, Mobile News, New Mobile Phones
In addition to this, similar to the 6700 Classic, the slide boasts 3G and HSDPA connectivity for web browsing and downloads, as well as HSUPA for lightning fast uploads too. Why such powerful download speeds i hear you ask? well, the 6700 is a Symbian S60 phone, meaning it is capable of running downloaded applications from Nokia’s Ovi Store. This all sits in an aluminum frame, like that found on the 6700 Classic, with a 2.2 inch screen to boot and is available in a wide variety of colours (pictured above). The second handset Nokia have announced is the Nokia 7230; a £90 Social Networking focussed slider. For your £90, you actually get quite alot in the way of specs too, a 2.4 inch TFT screen, 3.2 megapixel camera with video capture, music player, Nokia Maps, email, bluetooth and GPRS as well as full social networking integration including Facebook, Flickr and instant messaging in the form of Google Talk and Windows Live. Due for release in March and with a low cost price tag; we really quite like these handsets from Nokia, no doubt they’re going to be really good sellers, but come on already, give us the N900!! Keep an eye on the blog for more info. Bookmark at:StumbleUpon | Digg | Del.icio.us | Dzone | Newsvine | Spurl | Simpy | Furl | Reddit | Yahoo! MyWeb HTC HD2 in stock now at Mobiles.co.uk!November 30, 2009 at 12:07 pm by Dan | In Mobile Phones, New Mobile Phones
The focal point of the HD2 is unsurprisingly the touchscreen display; at 4.3 inches it’s the biggest ever seen on a mobile phone and looks fantastic. Incredibly sharp and crisp and with bright natural colours, the display on the HD2 is a feast for the eyes and makes browsing the web and watching movies a joy. We’d go as far as to say that when it comes to watching movies on the go, the HD2 is the best we’ve ever used. Great visuals is one thing but a touchscreen phone is nothing without said touchscreen being user friendly and responsive. HTC have thought of this and opted for a capacitive screen, as used by the iPhone and Palm Pre, which provides an ultra responsive user experience. The phone also supports multi-touch technology so actions such as pinch zooming in the photo gallery and on maps are all possible with the HD2. Away from the touchscreen (we could go on about it all day), the HTC HD2 is easily one of the most powerful Windows Mobile phones ever made thanks to the onboard 1GHz snapdragon processor and 448 MB of RAM. Applications launch effortlessly, navigating menus is equally quick and the HD2 will also multi task (run multiple applications) without breaking a sweat. Windows Mobile 6.5 is nicely complimented by HTC’s Sense UI which gives users multiple home screens to access and customise, aggregates contacts from multiple channels (Facebook, Twitter etc.) into your main contacts list and also keeps tabs of your friends showing you their recent photo uploads. Elsewhere it’s pretty much par for the course for HTC. A 5.0 Megapixel camera should handle all your photographic needs and the inclusion of a dual LED flash should mean the fun doesn’t end when the sun goes down. Connectivity is covered by HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and the phone also benefits from built in GPS with A-GPS support, a comprehensive multimedia player (skinned as Windows Media player) and expandable memory up to 16GB. Whilst it’s a late entry, the HTC HD2 is easily a strong contender for phone of the year. In stock now on Vodafone and O2, click here to check out our latest offers. MyWeb Navigon bringing SatNav to Android phones!November 27, 2009 at 1:10 pm by Dan | In Mobile Content/Services, Mobile Phone Applications
Compatible with Android smartphones running anything from Android 1.5 to 2.0 (though again, we should be so lucky to get in on the Android 2.0 action over here), Navigon’s SatNav app will be will be available to buy from the 10th of December. No word on pricing yet though Navigon do currently offer a SatNav app for the iPhone which costs £54.99 so expect Android pricing to mirror the app store. MyWeb Nokia N900 delayed…again!November 27, 2009 at 10:54 am by Dan | In Coming Soon Handsets, Mobile News
It seems Nokia have confirmed they will be fulfilling pre-orders made for the device but couldn’t (or wouldn’t) confirm when the device would launch with mainstream retailers. What this means is that those unwilling to shell out for the considerable sim free price now face an as yet undetermined delay for Nokia’s next flagship. What is confirmed however is that when the phone finally launches it should be well worth the wait. The Maemo 5 operating system is nothing short of a revelation. Putting the pitfalls of Symbian behind them, With a 3.5 inch touchscreen display, slide out QWERTY keyboard and excellent build quality, the phone itself feels every bit as polished as the operating system. Throw in a lightening fast processor and RAM, 32GB of on board memory, 5.0 Megapixel camera with all the trimmings and HSDPA, Wi-Fi and GPS and it’s hard to look at the N900 without salivating. Still it’s the operating system that really promises to change how we use our mobile phones. 2010 could definitely be the year of Maemo. MyWeb New App makes BlackBerry’s ready for take off!November 26, 2009 at 2:31 pm by Dan | In Just For Fun, Mobile Phone Applications
Firing up the app downloads incomplete emails from your mail server and then closes down all wireless connections and switches off the device ready for take off. Once the plane has successfully taken off, switch your BlackBerry back on and the wireless connections are still disabled but you can start working on your replies. Clicking send will store the messages ready for when you land. Once safely landed (and after thanking your relevant deity(s)), simply closing the app will restore all wireless connections and send all your messages that are queued up in the outbox. The App itself is designed by Cortado, the company that have brought us such apps in the past as ‘Save the Weekend’, basically a version of flight mode for weekends where out of office emails are saved for the next working day, and SMS2Desk which lets you receive SMS text messages to any email account. Compatible with all BlackBerry’s running BlackBerry OS 4.3 or higher, all you Curve 8520, 8900, Bold 9700 and Storm2 users can get in on the action. Thinking of catching the in flight movie on your next business trip? Think again. MyWeb Skype video calling comes to Symbian phonesNovember 26, 2009 at 9:52 am by Hannah | In Mobile Content/Services, Mobile News, Mobile Phone Applications, Mobile Phones
If you need to be clued up about Fring, it is a mobile internet communication service that allows friends to connect and share experiences. One way in particular is Fring video which enables users to make video calls with other fringsters as well as with Skype contacts over their device’s Wi-Fi or 3G internet connection. This service is the first consumer ready implementation of Skype video calling on mobile phones available. You can place and receive Skype video calls from other users (including other Fring users). This new service is a great example of what is possible with mobiles running on the Symbian platform. Video calling has been much hyped over the years, and Skype has become more and more popular due to the very attractive, non-existent price that video calls are to make (free), and are the ideal way to keep in contact with others either on business trips or in your personal life. The implementation of Frings’ Skype video calling on mobile phones will be even more useful than regular operator enabled video calling for some users, so the launch of this is new service for Symbian is a big one. Let’s talk about the quality of this video calling service. You can’t expect HD quality that you will find on your 40” TV screen. The display quality is relatively low, but no different than what you would find on operator based video calls. If you are making a video call between a mobile and a desktop you may find that there is a slightly better video quality which will be down to the quality of the web camera. Fring already has a range of communication options available across different bearers and servers including Skype Google Talk, MSN/Live, ICQ, SIP, Yahoo, Aim, Twitter and Facebook. Skype Video calling is treated as The Skype video calling functionality is available on the Nokia X6, N97 Mini, N97, 5800, N95 8GB and N95 devices. More devices will be supported in due course. MyWeb Palm Pre gets video recording… sort ofNovember 25, 2009 at 12:19 pm by Dan | In Mobile News, Mobile Phone Applications
Unfortunately the fix comes courtesy of the WebOS homebrew community rather than an official update from Palm and while it is only alpha software for the time being, it does show that the Pre is capable of video capture and hints at an official update in the near future. The app, known as Precorder, records video at 30 frames per second (fps) capturing 480 x 320 pixels and can even access the LED flash for recording in low light. It is still a little rough around the edges, there is for instance no viewfinder or preview whilst recording, but on the plus side it is absolutely free and does finally bring the Pre up to speed with the current gen iPhone 3GS. Check out the sample video below to see some footage recorded on the Pre by one of the early adopters. Come on Palm, we know the Pre is capable of it now so give us video capture! MyWeb Pixie Lott loves the Nokia illuvial range!November 25, 2009 at 9:41 am by Dan | In Just For Fun, Mobile NewsEverybody loves Pixie Lott right now. She’s young, she’s talented and she’s pretty easy on the eyes to boot. The sky’s the limit for this soulful songstress from Kent. But at this point you may be asking yourselves what exactly this is doing on the pages of a mobile phone blog. Well, we’ll tell you. Pixie Lott loves mobile phones. Simple. Ok, we’ll elaborate. Pixie Lott has been announced as the face of the Nokia illuvial range, the exclusive new colour range that includes the Nokia 5530, 6303 and 6700 in its roster. Pixie stopped by one of the Carphone Warehouse’s flagship stores to perform ‘Use Somebody’ from her debut album ‘Turn It Up’ (which she most certainly did!). Speaking on her partnership with the Carphone Warehouse and particularly becoming the face of the illuvial range, Miss Lott said “I spend loads of time on my mobile, so it’s important to me that it looks good. The phones in the range all look fab – they’re stylish and yet still girlie”. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Click here to find out more about the illuvial range and take a look below for a glimpse at Pixie’s live performance. MyWeb HTC HD2 launching on the 27th of November!November 24, 2009 at 10:33 am by Dan | In Coming Soon Handsets, Mobile News, New Mobile PhonesThe wait is nearly over; the HTC HD2 is set to launch on Friday the 27th of November. Having suffered more delays than your average international airport, there’s finally light at the end of what has felt like a very long tunnel. Available to pre-order now, reserve yours to avoid disappointment. One look at the HTC HD2 instantly reveals why it has been such a coveted device. The HD2 earns its place in the record books (for now at least) as the mobile phone with the largest display; a whopping 4.3 inches. As if those monster dimensions weren’t enough, the touchscreen on the HD2 is capacitive meaning it supports multi-touch technology such as pinch zooming and improved finger navigation. Backing up the mammoth touchscreen display is an equally gargantuan processor, namely Qualcomm’s 1GHZ Snapdragon processor. Combine this with 448MB of RAM and the HD2 makes for a powerful smartphone that packs a serious punch. But enough boring you with specs, chances are you know what this phone’s all about. To tide you over until Friday, check out this excellent HD2 teaser video, released by HTC, which does a great job of cranking up the excitement levels. MyWeb BlackBerry Pearl 9100 spotted in the wild!November 24, 2009 at 9:23 am by Dan | In Mobile News, New Mobile Phones
Well, cue the BlackBerry fanatics over at Crackberry.com who got wind of a new addition to the Pearl range; the BlackBerry Pearl 9100. Though yet to be officially announced, Crackberry has an excellent track record when it comes to outing previously unknown devices so we certainly wouldn’t bet against this rumour turning to reality. First things first we’ll take a look at what we know about the phone and in particular not what the Pearl gains but what it looses. The phone sees return of the SureType QWERTY keypad; a semi QWERTY keypad that places two letters on each key. The keys themselves sit on a pivot so pressing one side will type one letter and hitting the other side will call up the other. Whilst not as easy to use as a full QWERTY keyboard, SureType does allow for a more pocketable device than some of its stable mates. From the leaked images, we can clearly see that the Pearl 9100 will sport a built in camera (no mention of Megapixels yet) with an LED flash. The phone is also rumoured to feature 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity and will run on version 5 of the BlackBerry operating system.
