MyWeb Samsung G810 5.0 megapixel camera phoneMarch 19, 2008 at 9:46 pm by Jay | In Mobile News, Coming Soon Handsets
First impressions, the G810 certainly looks the part. It is encased in a brush metallic style body, and the front panel has four soft keys and a D-Pad style navigation key. The send/end keys on the handset are not situated where you would normally expect to find them, instead they are located further down the keypad, near the standard keypad. This does prove annoying in ever day-to-day usage. The screen of the phone is a quality TFT screen, supporting up to 256,000 colours, and measuring in at 320 x 240 pixels and 2.6 inches in size. The screen is bright and clear in most conditions except when viewed in the brightest of sunlight outside. Incorporated into the handset is a 5.0 megapixel camera with autofocus and a Xenon flash. This helps produce quality pictures in even the poorest lighting conditions. Face recognition helps with the autofocus to produce really clear, sharp pictures. The camera also includes a 3 x optical zoom, similar to that found on the Samsung G800. Video recording is equipped, and records video at VGA resolution. Built in is a GPS receiver, which would allow you to use the handset as a portable SatNav device. This works well, for example with the latest version of Google Maps. Google maps has a native S60 application available, and worked extremely well when tested on a Nokia N82. Support for GPS also means you can utilise the Geotagging feature. Geotagging allows you to record location details of a picture taken on the handset, so when you upload the photos to your favoured online storage space or blog details of where the picture was taken can be seen by friends and family. The Samsung G810 has a built in music player which supports a wide variety of music formats, including MP3, AAC, AAC+, aAAC+ and WMA. With support for Bluetooth 2.0 you can listen to your music with a compatible set of wireless headphones. Should you get bored with your own music collection the G810 has a built in FM Stereo radio so you can log in to your favourite FM radio station. A wired headset is needed for radio use, but the Samsung G810 does have a 3.5mm audio output jack so you can use your own favourite headphones. Connectivity wise the G810 is enabled with WiFi and HSDPA Mobile Broadband, offering complimentary options for downloading large files at high speed. Memory isn’t an issue for storage, with 130MB onboard memory and support for Micro SD cards, currently available up to 8GB in capacity. Overall the Samsung G810 is a nice looking handset and its feature set suggests it should prove an appealing alternative to the top end S60 Nokia phones Bookmark at:StumbleUpon | Digg | Del.icio.us | Dzone | Newsvine | Spurl | Simpy | Furl | Reddit | Yahoo! MyWeb Samsung G400 SoulMarch 18, 2008 at 11:15 am by Jay | In Mobile News, Coming Soon Handsets
Through the touchscreen, on the front of the G400 flip, you can control the radio, MP3 player and camera, plus browse through the photo album. When in standby mode, you can also view caller notification and SMS info. The Samsung G400 supports HSDPA, up to 7.2 Mbps data transfer, and is also equipped with Bluetooth 2.0 allowing you to listen to your music with a compatible wireless Bluetooth headset. The G400 Soul also includes a 5.0 megapixel camera, with autofocus and face recognition software. There is a flash, plus support for video capture. The G400 also has a secondary front facing camera for video calls. Also included in the phone is a full music player, with support for MP3, AAC, eAAC+ and WMA formats. Memory is expandable with the addition of a Micro SD memory card. Bookmark at:StumbleUpon | Digg | Del.icio.us | Dzone | Newsvine | Spurl | Simpy | Furl | Reddit | Yahoo! MyWeb Sony Ericsson Launch Xperia X1 HandsetMarch 6, 2008 at 7:21 pm by Jay | In Mobile News, Coming Soon HandsetsToday Sony Ericsson announced details of its new Xperia handset, the X1. The handset is a stand-out arc slider, aimed at users who expect a premium product with a focus on convergence. The Xperia combines a 3 inch wide VGA display and a full QWERTY keyboard within a quality metal finish body. With the Xperia you can access a whole range of features, anytime, anywhere. One of the biggest talking points about the Xperia X1 is it runs on Windows Mobile operating system. The phone supports WiFi and HSDPA, and also has GPS support. GPS is the main focus of a lot of handsets for the coming year, and the inclusion of GPS makes sure the Xperia is at the forefront of all the latest mobile technology. Main navigation on the eXperia is done via the large panels on the main screen. These can be customised to allow you to access your favourite features in an instant. The keyboard of the Xperia slides out in a smooth arc movement, and is very easily used for the composition of emails and writing documents. The Xperia marks something different for a Sony Ericsson mobile, and is expected to be launched in the second half of 2008 Bookmark at:StumbleUpon | Digg | Del.icio.us | Dzone | Newsvine | Spurl | Simpy | Furl | Reddit | Yahoo! MyWeb Samsung U900 Soul ultra-thin mobile phoneMarch 5, 2008 at 2:48 pm by Jay | In Mobile News, Coming Soon Handsets
The screen of the phone is a bright QVGA screen, 320 x 240 pixels. Measuring in at 2.2 inches and supporting up to 16 million colours. On the outside of the phone, with the slide closed, you will see in place of the traditional navigational buttons a type of touchpad, similar to those found on laptop computers. This proved to be a very effective way of navigating the phone menu. You don’t slide your thumb to control a mouse as you would on a laptop, (I don’t imagine it will be long before we find such controls as commonplace on a mobile phone) but instead you press on the icons on the display. These change intuitively depending upon the operation you are attempting on the phone. There is good haptic feedback when you touch the display, and it will also recognise long presses. The whole touchpad design is very well implemented on the phone, and is sure to be a major selling point of the U900. The Samsung U900 also has a 5.0 megapixel camera, complete with autofocus and image stabiliser, to help you get the best shots possible. Picture quality is of an acceptable standard, and would rival many mid-range stand alone digital cameras. The handset also has a video record facility, and records at a very crisp QVGA resolution. For your music entertainment the Samsung Soul has a full music player, supporting many music formats, including MP3, AAC, AAC+ and WMA. The phone also has a built in stereo FM radio with RDS support. RDS stands for Radio Data System and is used to send a small amount of digital information using standard FM radio broadcasts. This allows the phone to display, for example, the name, artist and album of the song currently being played, and possibly a playlist of the upcoming songs to be played on the station. Connectivity wise the Samsung U900 has support for HSDPA Mobile Broadband, offering high speed downloads of up to 7.2Mbps on compatible networks. The U900 is also compatible with Bluetooth 2.0 which allows you to listen to your music from the phone to a compatible wireless headset. The Samsung U900 Soul is set to be the top selling handset from the Korean manufacturer for 2008. Register your details here to be updated once further information is available. MyWeb New Sony Ericsson C902 Cybershot AnnouncedMarch 4, 2008 at 6:02 pm by Jay | In Mobile News, Coming Soon HandsetsAlongside the C702 Cybershot phone, Sony Ericsson have also announced the C902 Cybershot. The Sony Ericsson C902 Cybershot has a unique slide out lens cover, a design which instantly stands out amongst the crowd. The Cybershot camera is 5.0 megapixel, with Face Detection and Auto Focus. The screen is surrounded by illuminated camera shortcut keys when the camera is activated, offering an intuitive camera user experience. The lighting on the phone switches from white to blue when the camera is active, and the eight screen touch keys become illuminated, allowing you to choose between camera modes, Photo Flash, Face Detection, and Auto Focus and more. With a built in image stabilser you are assured of a quality picture with every shot. The C902 incorporates the latest in lighting technology, called Photo Flash. This gives superior quality pictures, even in low-light conditions. A light solution has also been added for the Best Pic feature. Best Pic allows you to take nine photos in quick succession, from which you can choose the best one and just delete the rest. A 3G phone with support for HSDPA Mobile Broadband, the C902 also supports Bluetooth 2.0 so you can listen to your favourite tunes from your phone with a compatible wireless Bluetooth headset. If you get bored of your own music collection, you can tune in to your favourite FM radio station via the built in Stereo FM Radio and listen to the latest hits. The C902 also supports the excellent Track ID application. If you are listening to a tune and you want to know the name of the song or artist, simply activate Track ID and record a snippet of the song. This will then be uploaded to the Sony Ericsson database and full track information including band name, song name, album name and where to purchase will be sent to your phone, usually within a matter of seconds. The C902 Cybershot is a well built handset, sturdy and proportionate. Rumour suggests that the C902 will be the next handset used by James Bond in the upcoming film, Quantum of Solace. The C902 Cybershot has 160MB of internal storage capacity, which can be expanded via a Memory Stick Micro M2 card. You can register your interest here if you would like to be informed when more information is available on the Sony Ericsson C902.
