Exclusive Smartphone Group Test. Day Three: The HTC Touch

September 28, 2007 at 4:55 pm by Hannah | In Mobile Phones

HTC TouchHere is a review of the HTC Touch, as reviewed by Hannah.

One of the most ergonomic phones I have seen for a while, the Ted Baker branded Touch is lightweight and smooth with a rubberised finish to add some style and sophistication. Having never used a touch screen and being somewhat a novice to smart phones my initial reaction to the phone was a little daunting, but once I’d got the sim and battery in, and read the first few pages of the handbook, I was away.

Overall, the phone looks and feels great, and has everything I need to conduct both my personal and business life from my pocket. It took a little getting used to, but now I don’t want to give it back.

Exclusive Smartphone Group Test. Day Two: The Nokia E90

September 27, 2007 at 7:35 pm by Jay | In Mobile Phones

Nokia e90 pictureHere is our second review, the Nokia E90, reviewed by Jay

In the world of mobile phones, size matters. If this is the case for you then you won’t like the Nokia E90. If you can compromise you will get a top class mobile phone. The E90 offers it all.

This is my first time really using a communicator device from Nokia on a day to day basis and I was left very impressed. The usability is straight forward, the product is well built and feels very solid, and the battery performs very well. In 10 days of usage I’ve had to charge the phone twice. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend the E90, it really is out on its own in terms of features and functionality.

The Nokia E90 is an amazing product. With so many features you would expect some level of complication in use, so it is a testimony to the user interface of S60 that everything is laid out in a logical manner and just simply works.

September 25, 2007 at 11:06 pm by Hannah | In Mobile News

How easy is it to set up the internet? Or how easy is it to lock and unlock the phone?

Here is the opportunity to let us know exactly what you want to see in a review, and what people usually miss out from reviews.

I love girly funky mobile phones in pink

September 24, 2007 at 9:25 pm by Daniella | In Just For Fun

Hey!

Sony Ericsson W580i in pinkMy name is Daniella EL Magowry, I work in the marketing department of Mobiles.co.uk and will be posting articles now and again for the blog. I am a placement student from the University of Hertfordshire where I am taking a Business Studies degree. Previously I have worked in a mobile phone wholesale company called Elite Mobile.

I love all girly, funky phones and accessories. I currently have the LG Chocolate and Motorola V3 in pink. The latest handsets I am interested in at the moment are the Sony Ericsson W580i in pink and the new funky coloured Mandarina Duck collection. When I’m not busy in the marketing department I like listening to music and love belly dancing! I also enjoy going out to clubs, concerts and the theatre.

I hope you enjoy reading the articles that I post and find the information useful.

Which Phone Are You Most Looking Forward To?

September 22, 2007 at 2:27 pm by Hannah | In Coming Soon Handsets, Mobile News

With many new mobile phones rumoured to be launching imminently, which one are you most excited about; the K850i, N95 8GB or iPhone?

Sony Ericsson K850i

Sony Ericsson K850i Cybershot

Sony Ericsson has unveiled a 5 mega pixel camera to rival the others on the market, some of the features of the Sony Ericsson K850i include;
8GB Nokia N95
• 5 mega pixel camera
• Email and Instant messaging
• MP3 player and FM Radio
• TrackID

8GB Nokia N95

• 8GB internal memory
• Black in colour
• Bigger battery due to removing the lens cap from the back
• Built-in GPS
• Larger screen than standard Nokia N95

Apple iPhone

One of the most anticipated launches in the UK, the launch of the iPhone is now one of the most searched-for phones although the high price (£269 even on a £35 a month tariff) will probably put most people off actually buying one, especially when there are much better featured phones around at a fraction of the cost. Some of its many features include:

• Finger operated glass touchscreen
• 2 mega pixel camera
• iPod music
• email and web browsing
• virtual keyboard
• 8GB internal flash memory
• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
• Youtube and google maps

I’m really looking forward to the K850 being a Sony Ericsson fan, but both the iPhone and 8GB N95 look like must-have phones too.

New Motorola ROKR E8 and RIZR Z10 mobile phones

September 20, 2007 at 2:49 pm by Jay | In Coming Soon Handsets, Mobile News

Motorola ROKR E8The Motorola ROKR E8 is Motorola’s latest music-centered handset. It has a touch-sensitive keypad which supports something called Haptic feedback. Apparently this allows users to ‘feel’ every key press.

The Motorola RIZR E8 has a built-in memory of 2GB which is expandable via microSD memory cards to offer up to 4GB capacity.

Other features of the E8 include a built in FM radio, Bluetooth, USB v2.0 and a 3.5mm. The Motorola E8 ROKR also has a 2.0 megapixel camera and is equipped with a 262K colour QVGA display. The E8 is a quad-band GSM handset, with GPRS and EDGE enabled.

The MOTOROKR E8 is expected to hit the shelves in November 07.

The Motorola Z10 has the same kick-slider design Motorola introduced with the Motorola RIZR Z8. This offers an opening mechanism which bends the handset to offer a more ergonomic design.

Motorola RIZR Z10

The Motorola Z10 has a 16M color QVGA display with scratch-resistant glass and a 3.2 Megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash. The camera captures video in QVGA resolution at 30 fps.

The Motorola Z10 is a quad-band GSM handset, supporting GPRS, EDGE and HSDPA. The OS here is Symbian UIQ 3.1, just like in the Z8.

The Motorola RIZR Z10 should be available in December 07.

Google phone or Yahoo phone?

September 19, 2007 at 9:59 pm by Hannah | In Mobile News

Google goes up against Yahoo in the race for its own branded handset, both the Gphone and Yahoo phone are rumoured to be due out at the same time and both have similar features. The race is on…

Google Phone

There have been many rumours over the past year about Orange, HTC and Google teaming up to create the GPhone, even reports that the phone has actually come out on sale. A standard HTC phone with built in Google software to make internet browsing easier and more importantly – quicker. It would also have some of Google’s additional services such as Google Earth and Google maps. If the rumours are true, the GPhone should be out at some point in 2008, definitely something to look out for.

Yahoo Phone

Yahoo are also rumoured to be bringing out their own handset, by using ex-Motorola software engineers. The rumours speculate that Yahoo have been working on their phone for much longer than Google, and it should be out by the beginning of 2008.

Whichever comes out first (or at all) it should be an interesting 2008 for mobile handsets

Stylish Nokia E51 announced

September 18, 2007 at 4:05 pm by Jay | In Coming Soon Handsets, Mobile News

Nokia E51Whilst everyone else is being dazzled by the iPhone, Nokia quietly announced today the upcoming release of a new addition to the enterprise range, the Nokia E51.

Very often it is the less hyped phones that tend to do really well. Back at the 3GSM conference in Barcelona, the Nokia stand was populated with much anticipated handsets such as the N95, N93i and N76 as well as the E90. Over in the corner, almost neglected by all, was the Nokia E65. A nice looking slide phone that just wasn’t capturing the imagination but did give you a sneaky suspicion that it was destined to sell in big numbers. And it did. Not only to the business market but the E65 has also sold well in the consumer market.

And now we have the Nokia E51. The E51 is a small handset, slimmer even than the 6120 classic. However, as with any handset that calls itself a smartphone, the E51 is packed with features.

The E51 offers WiFi connectivity, stereo Bluetooth support, 3G and HSDPA. It is a quad-band GSM handset, dual band 3G and has a mini USB port for connecting to a PC.

Other options include:

- A home screen including user-selected icons to the most used applications
- One Touch keys with one-click access to key functionalities including email, contacts, calendar and the home screen
- Set-up wizards offering step-by-step guidance for setting up email accounts, configuring Internet calling and accessing wireless local area networks
- Integration with a wide range of business email solutions, including Nokia Intellisync Wireless Email and Mail for Exchange to communicate with Microsoft Exchange Server, and consumer email
- Streamlined email reading experience with easy access to attachments
- Dedicated Email key on the front cover, indicator light for new email, and a preview window to the latest email on the home screen to help keep up with email when on the move

The Nokia E51 also extends business value to end users and businesses through its ability to integrate tightly with corporate telephony systems (PBX) through Nokia Mobile Unified Communications solutions such as Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Cisco and Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel. These solutions deliver desk phone calling features - such as extension dialing, hold, transfer and conferencing - to a single, mobile device. Companies can also reduce their international call charges by routing the call over the corporate IP networks.

For pleasure and leisure the E51 also has a 2.0 megapixel camera, MP3 player and an FM stereo radio.

The Nokia E51 is expected to be available during the fourth quarter of 2007.
