Mobile internet use on the increaseJanuary 30, 2007 at 9:59 am by Jay | In Mobile NewsUK mobile users accessed the internet from their phones almost 16 million times in December 2006, figures from the Mobile Data Association show. The report shows an increase of over one million on figures for November 2006, which was the previous record. In the past three months the internet was accessed 45.6 million times from a mobile phone, and the trend is expected to continue upwards. Initiatives such as T-mobile Web n Walk allow users to access the mobile internet for a fixed rate monthly fee, taking away many of the cost concerns users had in the past. Despite the impressive numbers, mobile data usage is still relatively small in the UK. A fair majority of mobile web use is acccounted for by the download of mobile ringtones, screen savers and wallpaper as users look to personalise their phones. True web usage, such as browsing websites and search engines for news and information is still relatively minor in comparison. As newer phones are released in 2007, with larger screens, built in RSS readers and faster browsing speeds, mobile web usage is expected to increase significantly in 2007. The Shine has an internal memory capacity of 45MB, which can be expanded by adding an additional memory card. The Shine supports Micro SD transflash cards, which currently offer memory up to 2GB, for storing pictures and MP3 files. One of the navigation features of the Shine is the scroll wheel situated on the front of the phone. The LG Shine is the first phone since the Nokia 7110 way back to offer this option, which is a surprise seeing how comfortable the scroll wheel is to use.
